Have you ever had that nagging thought of a ‘what if’ moment – what if you could go back into your past and tweak one thing, one event, one minute, one detail that would change the entire course of your life? If you could change one thing about you or your life, what would it be?

Boy! I’ve wished upon every possible star if I could change just one thing, IF ONLY I could, because life has never been easy, (and I believe in fairy tales, so why not)!! And on this journey, there have been so many add-ons I’ve just not been able to shrug off, shake off, pray off! It’s just a part of me, those undesirable ones.

If we could change just one thing, we would have been in a place that probably would be more desirous than our current reality, which we hadn’t foreseen coming, which we feel we don’t deserve, or where we currently find ourself stuck up. And with each passing day’s uncertainty, with our past screaming words of caution, we get so anxious about our future, that we might go to the extent of looking up to the skies and wonder – hey, anybody up there?

Oh yes, He is very much up there. And you’re very much on His mind. You’re written all over His heart and you’re even tattooed on His palm. So the possibility is near to zilch that He is as clueless as you are about where your own life is going.

So here’s a little something.

When God made man, unlike the moon and the stars that were created by the command of His words, He made it spectacular! He bent down. He took dust. He formed it into an image. He breathed life. He gave man a living soul. He followed a process. The creation of man was purposed to follow a sequence of steps, in order to achieve something grand!

Because He made man with intentionality (Genesis 1:26), He gave him an image (Gen 1:27), a blessing (Gen 1:28(a)) and a directive (Gen 1:28 (b)):

Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

And so when you catch the Master Craftsman in the middle of His work, and try to peek over His shoulder to look at that unfinished, Work-In-Progress, and can’t figure out head and tail of what He is doing with that blob of clay, or some planks of wood, or that plain tune that’s not four-part harmony, or some sort of a shape on a canvas that should be splattered with more colour, you’ve just not allowed Him to yet reveal what He has purposed for that piece of work.

He fashions a pot where you see clay. He hears a symphony where you hear a cacophony. He sees a Renaissance classic where you see scribbles. He sees the beginning standing at the far end of The End. He looks at you and me, not from the eyes of where we’ve reached today but from the fullness of time, of something or someone that He can stand back and remark – It is good!

It is good!!

Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good.

So if you’ve hit that point in life where you want to throw in the towel and call it quits because life hasn’t made sense till now, dear Masterpiece, trust your Creator. Don’t judge your unfinished self, the sandpapering experiences and that ‘not yet perfected’ life to define your tomorrow.

being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;
