A trustworthy companion and a vision of beauty, the character Ruth in the Bible is an epitome of companionship and she acts in ways that promote the well-being of others. This ordinary Moabite woman turned out to be a significant personality in the history of a nation as well as mankind. The mark that she has laid and the inheritance that she obtained is for a lifetime.
So, what made this ordinary young lady so special?
Ruth would have never dreamt of being tagged along with the greatest king in the history of Israel and the man after God’s heart, David or even being placed in the lineage of the Son of God, Savior of the world, Jesus Christ.
Yes. She was a Moabite by birth, cursed up to 10 generations and no day worthy to be a part of God’s elect, Israel. Life offered her a disqualified birth, a disheartening widowhood, a disenchanting youth, and a dismantled future.
In spite of all these disappointing, unforeseen events, she chose companionship over comfort, kindness over freedom, responsibility over security, truth over tradition and God over idols.
When she innocently chose to go with her mother-in-law to an unknown nation, among unknown people, with an unknown language, she never expected to acquire the blessed state as the probability was more for her to not be accepted. All that this decision could offer her in a human perspective was a vague, unsecured and unstable future. Her strong conviction enabled her to be sacrificial for a relationship, belief, and faith which she held onto expecting nothing in return.
Altogether, the highlight here is the God she chose. In a worldly view, all her choices could have ended her life right then and there. But…
That’s where Ruth starts to live.
She chose YAHWEH over and above everything and everyone. All her choices were made secure in this one choice that she made – YAHWEH, the only name that deserves all the praise and worship.
God offered her shelter under the shadow of His wings. She received unfailing kindness. She was freed from the curse. Her future was secured like it never could have. The impossible was made possible in her. She was redeemed into the grand plan of God.
A simple, ordinary woman, with nothing to boast about, nothing to take pride in, nothing to hold on to, nothing to hold her close, took a life-changing decision to choose God and her life changed drastically.
Because the Bible says…
I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.
John 14:18
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Matthew 6:33
Trust Him. He’ll never let go of you because He loves you.
It is a marvelous piece of work. Thank You Anchu for the inspired thought you have presented.
No woman is ordinary when you have Jesus in you.
Bless You
